The Hubby works at TI, and his new group goes out for lunch together on Wednesdays. They will often visit a taco joint called Torchy’s Tacos.
So, he finally convince me to try it out a few weeks ago…and I’m in love! I’m a bit of a heat seeker, so the Brush Fire taco is like the most delicious taco I have ever had. Jamaican jerk chicken, grilled jalapenos, mango, sour cream & cilantro all served with diablo sauce. It’ll burn your taste buds off if you’re not careful. I suggest going easy on the diablo sauce if it’s your first time. whew!
The Scallywag is a new item, which consists of coconut battered shrimp. It was fairly tasty, but the Brush Fire is still my fave.
The Hubby prefers his bi-partisan plate. One Democrat and one Republican. That’s so like him. Always so fair. 😉 LOL.
The Democrat: Shredded beef barbacoa topped with fresh avocado, queso fresco, cilantro, onions & a wedge of lime served with tomatillo sauce.
The Republican: Grilled jalapeno sausage, shredded cheese & pico de gallo served with Poblano sauce.
(yes, you’ll notice no cheese on the Hubby’s plates, that’s because he’s crazy and for some reason detests cheese. It’s something I struggle with every day…)
We’ve gone twice. The above pictures of food are from two trips. Despite how small they look, these tacos are very filling. I’d recommend skipping the chips & guac so you have more room for tacos, cause these are “damn good tacos.”
Fried Avocado: Hand-battered fresh avocados fried and served with vegetarian refried beans, topped with pico, lettuce & cheese served with Poblano sauce.
Green Chile Pork: Slow-roasted pork carnitas simmered with green chilies and topped with queso fresco (or not in Hubby’s case), cilantro, onions & a wedge of lime served with tomatillo sauce.
Crossroads: smoked beef brisket with grilled onions, jalapenos, cilantro, jack cheese & a slice of avocado served with tomatillo sauce.
So there you have it folks. These may not be the most ethnically authentic tacos, but frankly, I don’t give a damn. They taste mighty fine, damn good in fact (it’s their slogan). Definitely worth a try.
